Distinguished Patron, Pakistan Political Science Consortium
Prof. Dr. Moonis Ahmar is one of Pakistan’s most distinguished scholars in the field of International Relations, with an academic career spanning more than thirty-five years. Beginning his professional journey in March 1983 as a Senior Research Fellow at the Area Study Center for Africa, North & South America at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, he has since contributed extensively to the growth of political science, strategic studies, and peace research in Pakistan and beyond.
Over the course of his career, Prof. Ahmar has held key academic and research positions at leading national institutions including the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (Karachi), the Area Study Center for Europe (University of Karachi), and the Department of International Relations at the University of Karachi. His work in these institutions has played a formative role in shaping research, teaching, and policy-oriented scholarship in international affairs and regional studies.
Internationally, Prof. Ahmar has been associated with some of the world’s most prestigious universities and think tanks. His affiliations include the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Stimson Center and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington DC, the Middle East Institute, the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), the Max Planck Institute (Germany), the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy (Germany), and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), among many others. These engagements reflect his global standing as a scholar of peace, security, and conflict management.
Prof. Ahmar’s core areas of interest include conflict resolution, confidence-building measures, regional security dynamics, peace processes, and comparative studies of South Asia, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe. Through teaching, research, and institution-building, he has consistently advocated dialogue, regional cooperation, and scholarly engagement as pathways to sustainable peace. As a Patron of the Pakistan Political Science Consortium, his presence brings intellectual depth, academic credibility, and a strong commitment to nurturing critical political scholarship in Pakistan.
